When does Author Portal collect ORCID iDs?

When both ScholarOne and Author Portal are configured to do so for the specific journal, and the submitter is an author of the manuscript.

Are authors required to provide their ORCID iD?

This depends on the configuration of each journal in Author Portal. Journals can be configured to require that authors provide their ORCID iD during submission or revision, prompt the author to provide their ORCID iD but not require that they do, or not collect ORCID iDs at all.

How can authors link their ORCID iD to their Author Portal account?

Authors can link their ORCID iD to their Author Portal account from the My ORCID iD profile page or from the Author Details stage during submission or revision.

Note: Whichever of the above two methods the author uses, their ORCID iD will be associated with their Author Portal account overall, and not only with a specific submission.

How many ORCID iDs can an author link to their Author Portal account?

One.

How many ORCID iDs can an author link to their ScholarOne account?

One.

Must the email adresses of an author's ORCID iD and Author Portal account be the same?

No. For example, an author can link their ORCID iD which has the email address [email protected] to their Author Portal account which has the email address [email protected].

What happens if an author attempts to connect their ORCID iD with more than Author Portal account?

They will be prompted to choose which Author Portal account their ORCID iD should be associated with moving forward.

Which actions related to ORCID can I perform when proxying as the author?

You can visit the author's My ORCID iD page and unlink their ORCID iD from their Author Portal account.
Note: You cannot connect an ORCID iD to an Author Portal account when proxying as an author.

How can co-authors associate their ORCID iDs to a submission in Author Portal?

You can enable the Notify all Co-Authors to provide their ORCIDs option when configuring a journal's ORCID policy in the Author Portal Admin Tool.
Note: In order to enable the option to collect ORCID iDs from co-authors, the journal must be configured to collect ORCID iDs from submitting authors.

How are co-authors notified to associate their ORCID iDs with the submission?

When a manuscript is submitted or resubmitted in Author Portal, Author Portal sends an email notification to each co-author listed in the manuscript. The notification invites each co-author to either log in to their existing Author Portal account or create an Author Portal account if they do not already have one, and then link their ORCID iD to their Author Portal account.

What happens if a co-author is removed from the manuscript before they log in to Author Portal to link their ORCID iD?

They will see a message in Author Portal that no action is required.

Do co-authors receive a reminder notification if the submission is unsubmitted and then completed again?

No. If a co-author links their ORCID iD to their Author Portal account before the submission is unsubmitted, their ORCID iD will be sent to ScholarOne as part of the unsubmission replacement. The co-author will not be reminded when the submission is checked in again on ScholarOne after an unsubmission.

Is there a way to re-send an ORCID notification email to a co-author?

No. The notification is sent only when the manuscript is submitted in ReX.
